“She Carries Something Precious” is an allegory for the treasure women preserve for posterity. The fragile yet resilient vessel protects its delicate cargo: the woven basket suggests women themselves as bearers of life; the contents stand for the life sustained.  

The fragile yet resilient vessel protects its delicate cargo. The glow of freshwater pearls suggests the preciousness of the knowledge and lore that women pass on, and the inherent strength of the bonds that narrative preserves, from one generation to the next.
